Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 magnum opus 'Devdas' will be released in 3D on July 12 to commemorate its 15th anniversary as per a report in DNA. The original version of the film will be released in 3D as confirmed by Bhansali himself.

“When I was finally convinced about the 3D version of Devdas, I wanted to make sure that every frame conveyed just the right proportions and dimensions. I realized that much of my film was originally shot with a lot of depth in the frames. That, in fact, made Devdas an ideal candidate for the 3D format,” said Bhansali to the DNA.

Devdas to be released in 3D

'Devdas', starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff, back in 2002 had created a storm at the box-office. It was the most expensive film ever made in India then.

As per the DNA report- “The global reach of the format is very strong, thanks to the Hollywood super-hero films that are mostly created in 3D. With Devdas, we hope to crack the international 3D market that Baahubali missed, as it was not made in the format.”

With its flamboyant sets, larger than life portrayal of drama and emotions, amazing performances, soul moving music and a reach to the global audience through screening at the Cannes Film Festival, 'Devdas' remains Bhansali’s most ambitious project till date. It is to be noted here that the film was also sent out to the Oscars as India’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language film.

Shah Rukh Khan fans would be delighted to hear this news. Shah Rukh meanwhile is busy with his upcoming film Jab Harry Met Sejal directed by Imtiaz Ali and Bhansali with his next project Padmavati with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

SRK and Bhansali would collaborate together for a biopic on the famous poet Sahir Ludianvi.
