Guru Purnima is an Indian Hindu, Buddhist and Jain festival on the occasion of which people pay respect and revere their teachers (gurus). It's also called Ashadh Purnima as it marks the first full moon of the Hindu calendar month of Ashadh.

In Hinduism, it is often referred to as Vyas Purnima for the author of the Indian epic Mahabharata, Ved Vyas, was born on this day itself.
